Who we are
Arche Directory runs arche.directory and is responsible for the personal data described here. For anything about this policy or your data, write to hello@arche.directory.
Browsing the site
The site is static. We don’t use analytics, advertising or social-media trackers, and we don’t set cookies. Typefaces are served from our own domain, and screenshots and previews from media.arche.directory, which is also ours.
The site and its media are delivered by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data — your IP address, browser, the page requested and the time — to deliver pages, keep the site secure and stop abuse (for example, limiting how often a form can be sent from one address). This data is kept in short-lived logs and is not used to build a profile of you. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to tell people from bots.
To remember that the filter panel should stay open when you move between categories, the site stores one flag in your browser’s session storage. It contains no personal data and is removed as soon as it’s read.
What the forms collect
Submitting a site
The website address, the category, your note, your name (optional), your email address and whether you worked on the site. It arrives as an email in our inbox so we can review the site and reply to you. Ticking the box on the form records that you agreed to the terms and this policy, with the policy’s date.
Removal and correction requests
The entry or website concerned, what you’d like us to do, your relationship to the site, any details you add, your name (optional) and your email address. It arrives as an email so we can act on the request and reply. We keep a record of the request for as long as we need it to show that it was handled.
Weekly picks
Your email address, the page you subscribed from and your country, which Cloudflare works out from your IP address — we don’t store the IP address itself. You subscribe by ticking the consent box, and we record when you did and which version of this policy you agreed to. They are kept in a private spreadsheet until you unsubscribe. We use them only to send the newsletter and to understand, in aggregate, where subscribers come from.
Emailing us
Mail to hello@arche.directory is forwarded to our inbox. We keep it for as long as the conversation needs.
People and businesses shown in the archive
Entries show what a website publishes about itself: the name of the person, studio or company behind it and, in screenshots, whatever was on the public page — sometimes a portrait or contact details. We list sites because of their design, in our legitimate interest in documenting and commenting on web design. If you’re shown or named and would rather not be, you can object at any time through Removal requests and we’ll take the entry down.
Legal bases
- Consent — the newsletter. You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing or writing to us.
- Legitimate interests — replying to submissions and requests, running and protecting the site, and documenting web design in the archive.
- Legal obligations — keeping a record of removal and copyright requests where the law requires it.
Who processes your data
We don’t sell or rent personal data, and we don’t share it with anyone for marketing. It is handled by the services that run the site for us:
- Cloudflare — hosting, media storage, security, and sending form submissions to our inbox.
- Google — our email inbox and the private spreadsheet that holds newsletter subscribers.
These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their own data-protection terms and safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. If we start using an email service to send the newsletter, we’ll add it here.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy. Write to hello@arche.directory from the address concerned and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re in the EU, the UK or another country with a data-protection authority, you can also complain to that authority.
Children
Arche Directory is not aimed at children, and the newsletter is not intended for anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
